Concerns over the new coronavirus are seen to impact the consumption of goods and services, as well as travel-related industries particularly in mainland China. Alicia Garica-Herrero, the chief economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis, says countries highly dependent on Chinese tourists such as Thailand are will take a hit. But while the Chinese account for over 1.35 million tourists who visited the Philippines from January to September last year, Herrero says government spending this year will help offset these risks.
